UNDERWATER ART MAKES A SPLASH IN BISHOP ARTS
Chain Link Fence Art
Beautifies Neighborhood During Construction
Dallas, TX: The
Bishop Arts District has some new art and it isn’t murals. It’s chain link
fence art. A vibrant underwater scene complete with a seahorse, shark, trailing
seaweed, undulating waves and schools of fish has rolled in around a new apartment
complex going up at 305 Melba Street. The colorful art is drawing smiles and
compliments from local residents. The fence art, which stretches an impressive 200 linear
feet, was created by the artist VET using a range of recycled materials including
salvaged construction fence, water hoses, rubber insulation, CD’s, tulle fabric
and plastic table covers. It took VET
and a team of seven (7) helpers approximately 300 hours to complete the
project. She says, “I love working with found objects and this is an
opportunity to show how whimsical repurposing can be on a large scale.”
This site-specific
public art installation – often by flashlight in the early evening after
construction workers had left – were lead artist/designer VET, Sal Barron,
Patsy Davila, Patricia Dillingham, Cheryl Garrett, Sandra Lillard, Timothy
Shively and Yusef Sutton.
